Substack Launch
Starting now, I’m moving blog-like content stemming from J-ometry to this new Substack. I don’t have a great way to put content on the site itself. Twitter is often too limited on space, too contextless, and too ephemeral. Substack feels like a good place to mix textual and graphic content and house an archive. So here we are!
Content will go up here as there are new features or datasets to announce, or new thoughts to ponder. There’s no set frequency right now. Likewise, there’s no paid version of this right now.
Celebrity Data Relaunch
I redid the site a couple months ago to provide a better core code structure that would be easier to extend in the long run. Part of that process was to ensure that games with a Triple Jeopardy! round could be handled as a natural extension of the standard two-round game, but in the process I needed to remove three-round game support while working on it. At the time, primetime Celebrity Jeopardy! was on hiatus, so that felt okay. But now it’s back, and so is the CJ data.
This relaunch puts celebrity contestants from this season of primetime CJ on the same basis as contestants in both syndication and last year’s National College Championship. Their games are listed on the main page, they show up in the contestant index, they have player pages, and their game pages are complete.
This data relaunch includes last night’s game of Michael Cera vs Brianne Howey vs Zoë Chao and well as the revamped tournament summary. Personally, I’m currently putting Ike Barinholtz over Wil Wheaton in the final, but you never know who’ll come out of this last set of qualifiers.
Second Chance Eligibles View
Following online conversation during both Cris Pannullo’s and Ray Lalonde’s runs, I realized that while a part of the analytics fun is to go into prediction mode and compare champions to each other, the talk around who could or should get Second Chance slots is perhaps even more engaging. (Not a surprise: Sports people love arguing about who should get awards!) Until now, though, J!ometry has focused on champions first and foremost.
Starting now, there’s a new link from the home page called SC-Eligible Players for the 2023 TOC eligibility period. This new, adapted summary page only shows players with no wins on it, and it shows them all in the tables. Some graphs are limited for browser performance and legibility, but always to the top performers in the category on display. Remember that the tables are sortable! Contestants start out sorted by final score, but all columns are clickable to sort.

If you want to make sure you see announcements like these, the best thing to do is subscribe. I’m not going to make a big deal out of that yet, though. I’d still appreciate it!
